Our local sites and their employees take pride in contributing to various charities around our plants. In Spain our colleague, Juan Martinez, Operations Director, is taking an active part in the Fundacion Sierra de Alaiz.
Since 2011, Lhoist has been a sponsor of the Sierra de Alaiz foundation in Tiebas, Spain. Located close to our site Tiebas, the foundation’s mission encompasses a variety of local community needs: promotion of civic, educational, cultural, sport and scientific initiatives, to providing health and social assistance. They also work to protect the local environment, promote the social economy and, the recovery of historical heritage, and social and educational actions of equality.
Juan Martinez, our Operations Director for Spain and Portugal, is a member of the foundation’s board and has helped set up the “Respira” program which assists the elderly with daily tasks such as cleaning, cooking, and remaining active. The foundation also offers English classes scholarships to local students and provides financial support to families in need.
La Fundación Sierra Alaiz also provides personal donations for local causes; When it comes to the surrounding environment, the Fundación also created Nordic Walking trails which served to foster healthy habits in its citizens.
Saturday June 4th 2022 we had an event in Tiebas with the City Council, the Mayor and the neighbors to present the different activities offered by the Fundación Sierra de Alaiz over the last few years. Speakers during the event were Tiebas’ mayor and Juan Martinez, representing the Fundacion’s Board.
